Which does Faux News not get: plate tectonics or geography? (Hint: I'm betting on both.) Hullabaloo This Bunsen Boehner looks suspiciously like that other guy: (image above and awful pun mine)SwansonTea: F*@&ing Bill O’Reilly — How Does He Work?
As long as there is one thing that science can’t explain (or he doesn’t understand), all is well with his world. It’s amazing to me that this argument makes sense to him.
EB Misfit points out that the designers of this logo have the Wright brothers the first to fly a heavier-than-air craft... backwards. Whether this bodes poorly for the competition remains to be seen.
I saw this earlier this afternoon at The Daily What; my first assumption was that it was photoshopped. Despite assurances it came from the Guatemalan Government, I held off posting it until I saw it picked up in a more trustworthy place.Well, the NYT has picked it up, and I more or less trust them. "This astonishingly unnerving photograph was posted today on the Flickr.com feed of the Guatemalan goverment and shows a seemingly bottomless sinkhole that opened up on Sunday in Guatemala City as a swath of Central America was drenched by tropical storm Agatha." Yow! Below is a street-level view: The full-size aerial view is hosted at Flickr (~1 MB). Also, for you Star Wars fans, "This is no cave!" (I'm pretty sure that one is photoshopped.)
Look, I know the research says burning off the oil ends up being more good than bad. I'm just saying I'm still uncomfortable with the idea, okay? (Bits and Pieces)
It was announced a bit over a year ago that dubya was going to make a book, and it was announced yesterday that it would be published on November 9 of this year.
I can't wait.
As it happens, I was privy to a sneak preview of an early draft. And since there is currently a meme circulating in the left-leaning portion of the political blogosphere to provide a more appropriate cover, here's my offering to reflect that excerpt, Chapter 3. And in case you didn't notice the title of the post, I'd suggest we change the title of the book, as well.
I showed Jon, the older son of Bill and Iris, the picture of Iron Mandrill, and he was pretty excited; he's a big fan of comic heroes. He wanted to know if that could be done with sea animals, so I showed him the picture of Iron Manatee that gave me the idea (about 2/3 down the Sunday Funnies). He was really excited; Iris tells me he's a big fan of sea animals. He said, "It would be really cool to do one with Spiderman!" (He's a huge fan of Spiderman.)
So here you go, Jon, spider crabs: and a Spiderspider crab. Sleep well, kiddo.
Mandrill... Iron Mandrill. (title from here) Taking "inspiration," so to speak, from one of the funnies yesterday. This one goes out to a couple of simian bloggers I pay attention to, Dr Monkerstein, and Dr. Zauis. (Coincidence Alert: they're also featured at Ugly Overload today.)
Take the length of the equator on this map, double that distance and you have the width of a human hair. For this is the world’s smallest world map, with the 40,000 kilometre-long equator reduced to a mere 40 micrometres. The smallest features on the map, corresponding to 100 kilometres, are about 100 nanometres wide.
More info at the link. I decided that actually trying to represent the description might give it a little more impact... the scaly thing is a human hair, and the finer fiber is spider silk.
Blue Gal has issued what appears to be a new Photoshop challenge: steal Steele from the RNC interns photogallery (that is the difficult and painful part), and put him into a historical context. She suggests the 60's, and maybe I'll do another. But this picture dates from '74, I think, and represents my wishes for Steele and his party.
How many people have been photographed in this picture (click for full size)? By my count, one. Either this guy is a genius and a Photoshop wizard, or he has invented a time machine. I'm not sure which is more likely... I'm having a difficult time figuring out the logistics of putting this together. From imgur, via BuzzFeed.
So I heard it through the grapevine, Blue Gal has initiated a contest challenge and exhibition to perform Photoshoppery magic on Katie Couric's freaky frolic photos. Not being able to drop hundreds of dollars on a piece of software, I have to make do with Paint.nettery, but I'm happy with the results. The picture will get about 50% bigger if you click on it.
Michelle Bachmann...and Bat Boy Now happily reunited. Inspired by a post over at Distributorcap's place. I had never seen this Bachmann photo before, and he did something very, very disturbing (but very, very funny) with it. I decided to follow suit.
Dedicated to the easily frightened, easily amused, and easily excited child in each and every one of us.
The Catholic Church’s All Saints’ Day ( "Alholowmesse" in Middle English) was called All-hallows and the night before, All-hallows Eve, which became the word Halloween.
Monsters meet such innn-teresting people! Prepare to be eaten alive (invert the colors of this image to see the purposeful ambiguity of that statement: it's Heidi Klum wearing chocolate sauce... and nothing else) Brilliant costume from Julia Segal's Tumblr Skull Swap
As I commented when I posted this guy's clip of himself, storming Normandy, he would be so shot if he tried to pull his pranks in the US. Whaddya mean, you're vegan? Is that supposed to make me feel better? Oddee, 15 cutest baby costumes Recently discovered: the world's largest orb-weaver, at nearly 5 inches across. Darius Whiteplume posted this picture on his Tumblr...Paint.net isn't Photoshop, but it's a useful little app, and it's free.I can't say whether this is funny or nauseating. Or both. Either way, the resemblance is uncanny.
Ralph Lauren has twice now been caught photoshopping their models in order to appeal to their extraterrestrial customer base. These photos look like they're straight from the F/X crew of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." I tend to stick to plain old work jeans and tees in the summer or flannel in the winter. For those of you who might be in the market for this company's fine products, I encourage you to find an alternative. This sort of grotesquerie is an insult to human beings, particularly to those of the female persuasion. I'm sure the uptick in LGM custom will make up for their losses in the terran market.Buzzfeed Buzzfeed (The above model was in a couple of news articles yesterday, claiming she was fired for being "too fat.")
Inspired by a post at SVPOW, background photo from here with a bit of photoshoppery... or maybe I should say Paint.nettery. Blooger's scaling has blurred the image a bit; click for slightly bigger, but much sharper.
I was actually thinking about posting on this very individual last night, with the question, "How long before we hear the heavy mechanized breathing of Darth Cheney telling us this is politically motivated and a persecution of the heroes who kept us safe?"
"The people involved deserve our gratitude. They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions," he said in a statement dated Monday.
The squirrel has not run its course... apparently CNN picked it up today. America's most trusted name in trivia. But the video above, apparently a serious advertisement, is the one I like.
