Japanese businssman Tsutomu Yamaguchi was on a trip to Hiroshima in early August of 1945, when the atomic blast leveled the city. He received burns over half his body. He spent the night in the city, then flew home the next day.

Yamaguchi, now an apparently healthy 93, has become the first person officially recognized as having survived both of the nuclear weapons that have been used against human beings.

My hope and fear is that he will be the last: hope in that we must never allow such weapons to be used again. Fear in that, if they are, there will be no more "official" recognition of anything.
