Looking from the bridge in yesterday's photo, upstream along the Smith River. This is technically the North Fork, and we're just a hundred yards or so from its confluence with the South Fork. This is right about the point where the coast redwoods peter out, due to both geological and meteorological circumstances. We had driven by countless numbers of them, but we were looking for rocks; spectacular as the redwoods are, neither of us thought to get any photos of them. The rocks appear to be the same metasediments I mentioned in yesterday's post.
