Sunset from the northeastern rim of Crater lake is a thing to behold. Sun Notch on the right and Kerr Notch on the left are the low points on the southern rim. Dutton Cliff is lit up as if by incandescent lava, and while small in this view, the lighting of the Phantom ship is also quite dramatic. This was a long, but good, day.
Photo run through Paint.Net's autolevel routine to better saturate color & increase contrast. August 18, 2011. FlashEarth location.
Followup: Just started my reading, and The Oregonian has posted a photo essay of 45 historic photos from Crater Lake, some from even before its inauguration as a National Park in 1902.
